Step-by-Step Build
1. Construct the Frame
-
Lay out two A-frame sides using the 2×4 lumber.
-
Secure the top with a cross-beam—this will hold the water reservoir.
-
Ensure the frame stands at least 6 ft tall for good water pressure.
2. Install the Shower Pipe
-
Attach the 1″ PVC vertically to the center of the frame.
-
Drill a hole near the bottom for the hose fitting—seal with silicone.
-
Mount the shower head at the top of the PVC using a ½″ adapter and clamp.
3. Hang & Connect Your Reservoir
-
Solar Bag: Loop the bag’s handle over the cross-beam.
-
Bladder: Suspend from the beam; connect its outlet to the PVC inlet.
-
Use a short length of garden hose and appropriate fittings to join them.
4. (Optional) Add Pressure
-
Mount the 12 V pump at the bladder’s outlet.
-
Wire to a small battery + solar panel so it kicks in automatically.
Usage & Maintenance
-
Heating: Fill and place the reservoir in direct sun for 2–4 hours.
-
Cleaning: Flush the system monthly with a mild bleach solution.
-
Winter Care: Drain fully before freezing temperatures arrive.
Tips & Upgrades
-
Privacy: Drape a tarp or hang a shower curtain around the frame.
-
Footpad: Add a wooden pallet or stone base to keep feet clean.
-
Mixing Valve: Install a simple tee with a cold-water inlet for adjustable temperature.
-
Storage: Mount hooks on the frame for soap, towels, and gear.
